More About… JENN GRANT - From her debut record, Orchestra for the Moon, Jenn Grant's name has surfaced in four star reviews from Harp and The Globe and Mail, earned her several East Coast Music Awards nominations, and landed her on tours with the Great Lake Swimmers, Hayden, Justin Rutledge, Martin Tielli, Danny Michel, and The Weakerthans. There are traces of Orchestra for the Moon in her latest offering, elements that helped shape Jenn’s sound into what it has become. Producer/pianist Jonathan Goldsmith (Bruce Cockburn) leads a heart-on-sleeve band through Echoes: Kinley Dowling on violin, David Christensen on bass clarinet, Sean MacGillivray on bass, Gary Craig on drums/percussion, and Jenn herself on guitar. These are all sincere songs captured in the moment, on tape. Echoes was recorded and mixed with a fully analogue process at Puck’s Farm. Without the songs being old or feeling old, Echoes’ analog heart reflects the art and the heart of Jenn herself, inciting a familiarity that connects the listener with the roots of music. KYRA AND TULLY - Toronto born Kyra and Halifax Nova Scotia born Tully are now based in Kingston, Ontario. It has been three years since this duo's debut self titled EP garnered acclaim as a Critic's Pick "Best of 2006" in Toronto's Now Magazine and positive vibes from Exclaim! and CBC Radio as they charted nationally on the Earshot charts. Their folk-kissed, mellow pop music combines Tully's timeless songs about visceral experiences in nature and away from home with Kyra's unabashed sincerity in songs of love, loss and inspiration. Kyra and Tully's rich melodic songs beautifully capture the moment of fragile humanity that lies between deep sadness and profound hope. If the world were ending tomorrow, this is music that could lull you peacefully to sleep. The duo has worked hard to produce their full-length record , "Wildlife (In and Out of the City) which was co-produced by Chris Coleman, Kyra and Tully and Lenny Epstein and recorded by Chris Coleman (Night Sun) and mastered by Marty Kinack (Hayden, Broken Social Scene). LAKE ONTARIO WATERKEEPER - As one of the most exciting young environmental groups in the country, Lake Ontario Waterkeeper has drawn local, regional, and national attention for our clean water initiatives. Launched in February 2001, Lake Ontario Waterkeeper trains other individuals and volunteer groups to be local water guardians and to report pollution concerns.

It's been a while since we've updated our news.. and now finally we have some.. our full length sophomore album music is currently being mastered! Still no guarantee of when it will be officially released- but it's closer than it's ever been and we hope you will find it worth the wait. We may have another treat or two coming soon. Thanks for hanging in there with us, we love you for it and hope you love the new music. k&t xoxo
Prince Edward Island/Back Home and new album
Prince Edward Island, The Gentle Island indeed.. so relaxing so beautiful. Our show at Spinnakers Landing was one of our favorites, the people, the grand stage on the water (big thank you to Shannon and Bruce) the crowd loved Kezyan and attentive listening is the best kind of gig to play. The last part of our tour was spent at the gorgeous Rock Barra artists retreat on Prince Edward island- thanks to Jenn Grant for introducing us to Teresa Doyle (www.teresadoyle.com) and thanks to her sweet hubby Brett and thank you to Sam the Record Man. What a magnificent place, magical. We had three days all to ourselves and then a few more spent with new friends. We soaked up the sand, sun and peace, wrote and played music. After recovering from a month on the road we're home and settling back into Ktown living- loving life with our family and friends. Soon we will be back in the studio to complete the mixing of our new album.. release date still not firm but there's a good chance it'll be out there and available by early 2009. we'll keep you posted! take care til then.
Halifax
oh what a city! Halifax we love you.. Our show at Clay Cafe was great (thanks Martin!). vibrant and beautiful we're having fun in this exciting place. Lots of walking and sunshine. So far we've only busked once here.. on the boardwalk, it went well. Mainly though, Tully's been painting up a storm, morning and night. Soon we'll head to PEI to play our final show of our tour, do some work preparing the artists retreat for workshops and chill by the ocean until we start the long drive home. Canada is such a beautiful country- we feel so very fortunate to have had a chance to get to know more of it this summer.
Antigonish, Nova Scotia Summer 2008
We spent a wonderful three days in the beautiful, quaint, prestine and peaceful town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia with Tully's super parents. The main reason we came here was to see the lovely Jill Barber headline at the Main Street Music Series. Her performance was amazing, she sure knows how to win a crowd over- and we got to hang out together later-fun times. Next we are off to Halifax and then PEI. We'll update soon.
Truro, Halifax, Antigonish, Nova Scotia
Here we are in the beautiful town of Antigonish.. we came this way to see our friend Jill Barber play a show. Tully's parents have joined us and we are staying in a fabulous little place that feels like home. Halifax was a blast! Martin at Clay Cafe is a great guy and though the sound was a bit tricky we had a fun show. Our good friends Emily and Dan brought their three boys so Kez had friends to hang with and I think they were impressed with Kezyan's drumming! Kezzy also had his turn on the mic sang Don't Let Me Down and Get Back which was great. Our show in Truro couldn't have been better, (thanks Ray!) a very welcoming and full crowd made for a good audience, we had a bunch of family there to see us which made it special and we even made front page news in the Truro Daily Newspaper. Soon we will head back to Halifax to busk and Tully will do more painting and then to PEI to play our final show, stay at an artists retreat on the ocean- and then eventually make our way back home. We will be updating our photos and will post more news soon!
Happy Canada Day!
Canada Day was well spent- the people here really know how to show they love our country, so many dressed in red, ice cream, balloons, wonderful music. We busked a bit and played on the patio at the Bridge Street Cafe (thank you Cathy!) and enjoyed the friendly people and festivities all around. We walked along the beautiful boardwalks (in Waterfowl Park) and trails surround by marsh and never ending precious wetlands- rich and diverse. Tully's been working his magic and started doing watercolour paintings of buildings around town, including the house artist Alex Colville once lived in across from Mount Alison University and the super sweet (especially the people) Struts Gallery. Life is good here in Sackville, New Brunswick and it will be sad to say goodbye to this darling little town, but we hope to return- and we are looking forward to our farewell gig at the Struts Gallery weekly barbeque.
Family Friendly Eastern Canada Tour
Well we finally made it on our eastern Canada tour.. and here we are settled in the sweet town of Sackville, New Brunswick where the people are wonderful and arts, culture and nature revered. We play a show noon, Friday, July 4 at the fine Struts Gallery weekly outdoor barbeque and in the meantime intend to busk around town. Our show at Sessions Cafe was lots of fun and the Shadow Lawn Inn like a palace-a drastic change after sleeping in the car on the long drive here- with a four year old. Next we head to Truro, NS and we're excited to hook up with family and then head to Halifax. The east coast is magical, with forests so dense and beautiful, something to be proud of and to protect. thanks for checking in and we'll update again soon.

Happy Spring!
Now that was a long drawn out winter! hello sunshine and buds on trees. We definatly went underground for the cold season.. worked hard on our music, writing and recording.. and oh our new album is coming along! very exciting.. but still not rushing, it will be a while longer before any release. BUT.. there is one track, tully's tune, Thunder Bay (that will be on the sophomore release) that is part of the Friends of Skeleton Park compilation CD (in support of Kingston's Skeleton Park Music Festival www.skeletonparkmusicfestival), set for official release April 26,08. Also, my friend Maayke is at art school in Scotland and she has recently put together a documentary about, the now sadly, extinct Baiji dolphin that once thrived in a river in China, but died out due to too much industry. I contributed my voice and wrote music to a song, the beautiful lyrics written by children performer Ron Hiller and Judy Millar (Ronno Music/Socan) who graciously have granted us lyric copyright to use the song in the film. We hope to be able to post this on our site. The best feeling ever is to have your art do some good in the world and we aim to continue to do what we can to create positive change. may spring bring good things your way. we will write again soon. love, kyra (and tully)
widdling away day by day
Hello and happy new year! thanks for checking in. we have been working away on musical things.. writing new songs and editing songs we've already recorded. we'll be going into the studio a bunch more between now and the summer in hopes to have that part of our next album complete by then-but no promises quite yet. And.. we are starting to book a make up summer 2008 tour in Eastern Canada- not too fancy but a few good shows and then writing/ busking/painting time on Prince Edward Island. Can't wait! Tully's song Thunder Bay (also slated for our next album) will appear on Apple Crisp Records soon to be released compilation CD, Friends of Skeleton Park, in support of the Skeleton Park Music Festival. Other artists on the album include, Chris Brown, Sarah Harmer, Jenny Whiteley, Infotourist and Emily Fennell. well I think that's news for now.. I'll send updates again soon and in the meantime take good care. kyra (and tully)
new music
Hello and thanks alot for checking in.. With sadness we had to cancel/postphone our eastern summer tour due to medical issues in our family. We're currently working on our sophomore album and playing the occasional show. love and light to you.
summertime in the city
ah sweet summer, swimming, sunshine fun. We are plugging away at our music working songs out here in Ktown and out at Leopard Frog Studio and starting soon a little more on the road and beyond. Taking a little trip down east with Tully's folks in mid August so trying to line up a few shows since we have childcare, although maybe the big little guy will want to play drums, some harp perhaps, he's really good seriously. Amazing music and art happening in our town it's a special place with special people. come visit!! We'll check in soon.. just wanted to say hi and be lighter than the last message we left you.
Out West
We've just returned home from an amazing time out west where we visited Victoria, BC and Salt Spring Island. Salt Spring Island is a magnificent place, a gem, we stayed in a sweet little cottage in the woods and though very sad this was a safe and healing place to learn Grandma Millie, whom we were very close to, passed away. A celebration of Life for a friend who passed on Christmas day is what took us out west in the first place and so we go through the bittersweet cycles of life and death, living in gratitude for being alive. Victoria too is such a beautiful and breathtaking place. Spring has sprung, there are flowers everywhere and everything is so green and fresh. We had an awesome time playing music, turns out our son was the star of the show.. he wouldn't have sitting out and insisted on playing drums, so we let him and he was fantastic. We've told him from when he was born, "we're not farmers, we don't need help in the fields, we had you to be part of our band".. we were half kidding but he seems to be taking it quite seriously which is good cause we want to continue to take him with us on the road. Big, huge thank yous to Mike at the Sprial Cafe and the Children of Celebrities and Lauri Nerman; James Kasper and the Cornerstone Cafe and Nicole and her roomies and Andrew and Vicki.. all of you are wonderful and treated us like gold. We shall return out west, we love the mountains, the air, the people and places and the excitment of knowing there are bears, cougars and wolves in those woods.. a special, inspiring and exciting place. On another note.. we're getting ready to record again and figuring out what songs we'll put on our next album. As some of you may know we take our time on these things so it may be a while but hope you agree it will be worth the wait. Happy Easter to those who celebrate it.

The lovely and talented Amanda Putz played our song, Wake Up in the Morning again on her show Bandwidth last Saturday, I was listening on the cell phone at the awesome Wolfe Island Music Festival as Tully held the phone to the radio... (sadly Amanda is leaving CBC to move to Japan.. no doubt she will be sincerely missed). Our songs will soon be available for purchase on itunes... The Kingston Women's Art Festival is fast approaching... and a gig in Picton too.. we hope to see you there and will be back with updates real soon. It's been a while!
A quick update for K and T...They've been out and about lately (New York state mostly), getting ready to move into a new apartment in K-Town and all that fun stuff. The love machine has been busy...A packed house at Mitzi's Sister in T dot, A great show at the release of "Lesbians with Cancer" a film produced by Rowan Ramsey for which K and T licensed a song, "A New Frontier". K and T sold all the copies of the single they had made (Kyra did some of the artwork for a change!- pretty flower) so now we're gonna pass around the song to radio and online. I'll try to add it to the flash player. We're also getting digital distro up and running, so soon (we hope) say hello to K and T on Itunes. K and T played the Skeleton Park Music Fest Kick-off. What a great festival. Congrats to all the organizers. K and T were also totally stoked when they went to the Elphin Roots music Fest (as fans) and were asked to play a set. It's such an honour to play a fest in such great company (Jenny Whiteley, Luther Wright, David Francey). Big news on the business side as it looks like we're going to have a booker, finally! So look for a tour in late Sept./Early Oct...And finally, shout out to all the radio shows who continue to spin the EP...It's great music for the summer sunshine.
Played Woodstock New York!
thanks for checking in.. we are currently in Woodstock New York and what a fabulous place this is! We are walking distance to the quaint and artistic village, staying in a two room cabin in the woods. Yesterday (Saturday, May 20) was Levon Helm Day here in Woodstock and Tully and I were so lucky to land a little gig at the fine Woodstock Lodge. Tully got to play his tribute to Mr. Helm and The Band singing, This Wheels on Fire. We will return to this magical place, it is a gem, a mecca for the creative soul. So, so beautiful, mountains, streams, bears and wolves and neverending woods, lush and wild. Just the inspiration we have been seeking. In other news.. one of our newer songs, A New Frontier was chosen to back part of of the film (along with Karyn Ellis's Morning Song) Coming Out Again: Lesbians Speak About Cancer. The production of this video has been made possible by the generous support of the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division. The video, produced by Ramsey Media is slated for private release June 22. Kingston's Skeleton Park Music Festival is coming up! Details: www.skeletonparkmusicfestival.ca Kyra and Tully kick off the festival 7 p.m., Friday, June 23 at the Grad Club. Bandwidth CBC Radio
So, we continue to chart on various campus stations across Canada and we got played Saturday, March 18 on CBC's Bandwidth with host, the wonderful Amanda Putz. Even though we listen to CBC alot we didn't actually hear ourselves, but some of our friends did! And, we will be up in Toronto Easter Friday, April 14 performing at the Now Lounge so please come say hi if you are in the area. k&t
charting on campus radio
a little note to tell you some good news.. and that is we have been charting the last few weeks at the University of Victoria (CFUV 103.7) where in mid march we sit at number 13, at the University of St. Catherines (CFBU 103.7) this week ending we are at number 11 and at the University of Toronto (CIUT 89.5) we are currently number five, week ending March 14,06. We (well, Tully, is stamping like a mad man) are in the midst of doing a new run of 500 cds as we are pretty much out of our first batch.. so our gigging is kinda on hold, but very temporarily. the office side is remaining busy though so keep in touch and thanks for checking in. love, kyra and tully
Review in Toronto's Now Magazine
hey check it out.... Our website is almost up to par.. but not quite, so for now we're posting this exciting review on our news page (rather than on our press page). Perlich's Picks Now Magazine Toronto (Feb. 2006) A weekly dig through the crates for the stuff you really need to hear By TIM PERLICH Listen, Buster! Admittedly, it's been a while since I've heard anything exciting coming out of Kingston, but the promising independent label Buster Records is making an effort to put Jailtown back on the music biz map. Its latest release is a stellar six-song EP from Toronto-born Kyra Walker and Halifax-raised partner Michael "Tully" Pearson , known as Kyra and Tully, who've perfected a disarmingly intimate folk-pop sound that combines the eerie intrigue of the Handsome Family with the tuneful charm of Iron and Wine. The limited-edition disc's silver-embossed cardboard packaging is also rather special. There are only 500, so you'd better act fast, hombre. www.busterrecords.com.
Whirl of a Tour
And a whirl of a tour it was.. We now are playing with a wonderful person and cello player Melinda, she accompanied us on our tour and we shone brighter because of her presense. A big thank you to our manager Lenny and his beautiful wife and daughter.. they took care of our son while we performed our shows and we couldn't have done it without them. The Brampton Festival was a blast, we sold some cds and now we understand where the director Friendly Rich gets his name.... a great guy and a great festival. The Bull Ring at Guelph University rocked, what a venue.. a big circle building in the middle of campus with high ceilings and comfy couches. A couple hundred people must have gone through there when we played. Heart day in Ktown was a perfect place for the whirl to settle, there was love all around at the Goat and good friends came to see us play. We have more shows coming up soon so check out live dates and we hope to see you there!
Where to buy our cd
people have been asking so here it is.. you can buy our new ep at Zap Records on Princess Street and at the Green Room in the John Deutch Centre (Union and University) Queen's University or online from our merch page (click on merch)! Ten dollar.

Onwards and Upwards
So, we've finally recovered from the cd release of last weekend enough to make a post...I still need to get Kyra the info of how to add posts of her own so hopefully K and T will soon be writing updates too...The release party went well. Sold a bunch of records (which is always nice) and people seemed to enjoy themselves...the performance was pretty tight and by the end of the night, the kyra and tully magic was in full swing. The Queen's Journal wrote an article on Kyra and Tully...The press page will be the final resting place for such things. We're also trying to get other aspects of the site up and running with speed- images, video, music, paypal etc...it'll come...in the meantime, feel free to visit Kyra and Tully's newmusiccanada page. You can listen to streaming tracks there. ah, how we love the cbc! The next K and T show will be an in-store session on Queen's Campus at The Green Room on Nov. 24th at 1pm...take care all.

At last, all the pieces have come together. We have beautiful, one-of-a-kind compact discs, beautifully packaged. The whole thing is super. The music is really excellent too. Can't wait until November 4th when we launch at the Grad Club with Tanis Rideout's book of superhero poetry, 'Delineation'.
